Pinch Pot Workshop with Splendid Wren Saturday 27.07.19
Workshop - An Introduction to Making Ceramics - Pinch Pot Workshop
This two hour workshop will give an introduction to working with stoneware clay and in particular the techniques for making pinch pots. First we will make a cup/ tumbler for your coffee, tea or wine. And then we will move on to make a larger pinch pot which could be used as a bowl.
Catherine will take away the pieces for drying then bisque firing to 1000 degrees, glazing and the final glaze firing to 1260 degrees. Pieces will be available for collection approximately 4 weeks after the class.
Catherine Field is the maker behind Splendid Wren Ceramics. Her range of handmade homewares from Bondi Beach, Australia focuses on functional simplicity. The pieces are made using traditional hand building techniques from a range of stoneware clays. They are then high fired to stoneware temperatures to ensure their durability. No two pieces are the same. They feature natural, earthy glazes and often there will be a finger print or makers mark to remind users that it was made by hand. Her work is stocked at Mindful Co Cronulla, Commune Bondi, Elph Store, Orchard Street, Mia Chicco and Paperbark Camp.
Catherine first took a class in pottery at the Bondi Pavilion 5 years ago. Pretty much immediately she was addicted and started dreaming of shapes and finishes. Not long after people started wanting to buy her work.
